Pet Exercise Idea: Weave Poles Workout

Dog agility is a sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. One of the best ways to train this is through the weave poles workout.

Although weave poles are often used in agility competitions, they can also be set up at home as part of a doggie obstacle course or fitness routine. This is a great way to get your dog exercising, and it can be fun for both of you!

Here’s how to set up a weave poles workout for your dog:

1. Start with six to eight poles placed in a straight line, spaced about two feet apart.

2. Teach your dog to weave in and out of the poles by holding a treat near the first pole and calling your dog’s name. As your dog goes through the poles to get the treat, praise him or her enthusiastically.

3. Once your dog is comfortable weaving in and out of the poles, increase the number of poles to 10 or 12.

4. You can also make the weave poles workout more challenging by spacing the poles further apart, or by adding other obstacles such as jumps or tunnels.

Weave pole training is not only great exercise for your dog, but it also helps to build confidence and improve coordination. So give it a try the next time you’re looking for a fun way to work out with your furry friend!
