Is your dog acting a little uncoordinated recently? Do they seem a bit sloppy in their movements?
Barring any serious medical issues, it could be that their natural balance and coordination just aren’t that good.
Of course, it’s still better if you can have them checked out at the vet first, but if all seems well health-wise, you may want to try some home exercises to improve their balance and coordination.
Exercises for Dog Balance and Coordination
Here are two of the best exercises you can do with your dog right in the comforts of your own home.
Leg Weaves
Leg weaves involve letting your dog move between your legs as you walk forward or backward. Doing this will improve their coordination since they have to coordinate their movements in time with you moving your legs.
Balance Disk
Just like with humans, balance disk exercises can improve your dog’s balance. This exercise needs a type of equipment in order to work. Luckily, there are plenty of options on Amazon, such as the Black Mountain Products Balance Stability Disc, or the Trideer Inflated Wobble Cushion.
- Make your dog sit in front of you, with his two front paws resting on top of the balance disk.
- Hand him a treat that’s just out of his reach. This will get him to stretch his front legs.
- Since your dog’s front paws are on the balance disk, he’ll have to work to keep his balance in order to get the treat.
