Do Dogs Get Cold?

It’s wintertime, and there you are, freezing in your fluffy earmuffs, double-padded coat, and faux fur boots. Meanwhile, there’s your dog, zooming around in the snow, seemingly not minding the cold in the slightest. But the question is do dogs get cold?

Do dogs get cold?

Dogs do get cold, definitely. Just like humans, they also feel it when the temperature is too low and can suffer from the same issues humans get in extremely cold weather.

That said, their tolerance for cold temperatures is much higher than humans, mainly due to their natural coat. This is especially true for thick-coated breeds, such as Siberian Huskies and Samoyeds, who were bred specifically to survive in cold temperatures.

If your dog doesn’t have a thick coat, though, such as Dachshunds or Chihuahuas, you can still let them out during winter – just make sure that they have a way to stay warm despite the cold weather!
